For baby monkey Dito, one of the most difficult lessons of growing up has begun.
Still young and deeply attached to his mother, Dito is not ready to give up the comfort he has known since birth. When his mother begins reducing nursing, the little monkey reacts with loud cries and persistent protests, making it clear that he does not understand why his favorite source of comfort is suddenly changing.
Dito stays close to his mother, hoping she will change her mind. Each time he tries to nurse, however, his mother gently resists. Instead of giving him what he wants, she encourages him to become more independent.
To Dito, it probably feels unfair.

She may not give him exactly what he wants, but her presence still provides something just as important: security. The little monkey can continue following her, learning from her, exploring his surroundings, and gradually discovering how to take care of himself.

Dito may not understand that yet.
