Baby Macaque Alfie Takes His First Fearless Swim in the Rain

A baby macaque named Alfie plunges into a shallow stream during a rain shower and splashes around with wide-eyed delight, seemingly undaunted by the water. The footage catches him mid-motion, mouth open in what looks like a laugh, his tail flicking droplets into the air as he pushes forward through the current.
What happens in the video

The clip opens with Alfie already in the water, his small body mostly submerged as he wades through a muddy, rain-fed stream lined with rocks and greenery. He moves with quick little strokes, pausing now and then to look toward the camera, curious rather than afraid.
His fur is dark and slicked down from the wet, a contrast to how fluffy young macaques usually look on dry land. The stream itself looks no wider than a backyard kiddie pool, but for an animal his size it clearly feels like a real adventure.
Where does Alfie go after the swim?
Later in the footage, Alfie has climbed out onto a large leafy plant, gripping the fronds with all four limbs as he balances above the rocks below. His fur has dried into a fluffier, paler look, and he peers around at the surrounding grass and foliage with the same alert curiosity he showed in the water.
Eventually he rejoins a small group on a patch of open, sandy ground near flat stones. An adult macaque grooms or rests nearby while another young one plays close to Alfie, suggesting he is part of a wider troop rather than out exploring alone.
Why the moment stands out
Water play is not unusual behavior for young macaques, who are known to be curious and quick to explore new textures and terrain. What makes this clip memorable is simply Alfie’s apparent lack of hesitation — no clinging to a rock, no crying out, just straight into the current with what looks like pure enthusiasm.
